									<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>One of my clients received a letter from IRS notice53E stating that they can not do direct deposit even though they requested a paper check as a refund. they want them to go to IRS.gov/ModernPayment and they want them to go to IRS.gov/Account to access an online account.<br />
Anybody else have a client that received this notice?</p>

									<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I&#8217;m going to file joint on the federal and MFS for NYS [wife]. The wife who will work in NY will file [form IT-201] for her W-2 wage and split any interest, dividends and capital gains with her husband.<br />

I&#8217;m feeling that if she sold 50 shares at $62 [$3100] she would be showing a loss. Original shares of $87.50 times 50 shares would be $4375. Therefore the loss would be $1275.</p>

She did not do a tax return to report the dividends. She now is asking about the capital gains if she sells some of the Exxon shares.  Also one of my client&#8217;s who filed a married filing joint return  received a $2400 check who&#8217;s husband died at the end of 2019.<br />
Can these check get cashed or do they have to send it back to the government?</p>
